In Cascade, the second book
in the River of Time Series, Gabi knows she’s left her heart in the
fourteenth century and she persuades Lia to help her to return, even
though they know doing so will risk their very lives. When they arrive,
weeks have passed and all of Siena longs to celebrate the heroines who
turned the tide in the battle against Florence—while the Florentines
will go to great lengths to see them dead.
But
Marcello patiently awaits, and Gabi must decide if she’s willing to
leave her family behind for good in order to give her heart to him
forever.
Review:
Cascade picks up right where Waterfall drops off. Gabi and Lia have returned from fourteenth century Italy, but Gabi has left her heart in the past. Gabi convinces Lia to return to the past with her, despite the risks. The sisters find themselves in the middle of a fanfare celebrating their heroism for saving Siena. Everything seems to be going well, accept for Gabi's relationship with Marcello. She's left to decide if she should remain in ancient Italy forever, and forsake her family, or return home, and forsake her heart.
I'll admit -I wasn't incredibly impressed with Waterfall. Maybe it's because I read and ARC of the book, so it wasn't completely polished -or maybe it's because the ARC I read was factory defective: it was printed upside down and from right-to-left, instead of left-to-right. Needless to say, this probably impacted my reading experience in a negative way. Still, I read the entire book and thought it was a lovely YA historical novel.
Cascade, on the other hand, is a considerable improvement on Waterfall. This time, the world and characters have already been established, so author Lisa T. Bergren has the opportunity to really expand on her characters and the world in a new and compelling way. This time, I felt like the romance between Gabi and Marcello was more mature, more genuine, and the plot far more compelling. Though Gabi has established herself as a heroine, she now finds herself firmly in the cross hairs of an enemy that would see her dead.
As a fan of YA novels and historical fiction, Cascade satisfies both of these interests perfectly. This is a wonderful series for readers who enjoy a little history, a little romance, and a well-constructed plot that'll keep you flipping pages up to the very end.

Thanks for hosting a tour stop--and for seeing CASCADE thru even after that crazy ARC experience (I've not heard about that from anyone else--lucky you!). It IS nice to settle into book 2 in a trilogy, for all the reasons you noted...it's part of why I love writing books in a series!
I also liked Cascade better than I did Waterfall, but I read the ARC of Waterfall as well.
There were a few parts of Cascade that I didn't care for (there were a few subjects that didn't need to be brought up), but other then that, I liked it.
The good thing about series is that I can return to a familair world and characters. Often I've found the second or continuing books are better because the world has already been established so there's less explaining needed and the story can just flow. I'm glad to see that's the case with this series. Thank you for the review.
Oh my gosh! I loved Cascade! I was really glad that you also enjoyed it, because reading a negative review of a book that you love is sort of a downer. Thanks you much!
I liked both Waterfall and Cascade... but Cascade did introduce Lord Greco. :) And it was interesting to see Gabi struggle with her heart and her family... that would be a terrible choice to make!
I loved Cascade! I think it might even be my favorite out of the series! I am glad though that I read a "normal" Waterfall :p
I have read Waterfall and really enjoyed it, but I keep hearing Cascade is so much better. I also heard we get to meet a certain Lord that people love to hate.
I really enjoyed Cascade, (though I have yet to read Waterfall). That sucks about your ARC copy, so weird!
I loved Waterfall,Cascade, and Torrent SO much!
I cant wait for the next book to come out!
Thanks for the great review. I have yet to start this series but it's nice to know when a series get's even better. I'm looking forward to reading these great books soon :-)
I haven't really read any historical fiction, but this series sounds really good. Who doesn't love time travel? I can't believe you were able to read through a defective arc.
I seriously laughed out loud when I read about your reading experience with Waterfall!!! that would be very frustrating! Glad you stuck it out though. This is such a great series!
I love YA historical fiction, it's even better with romance! Thanks for the review! (=
I loved Waterfall and imnply cannot wait to read Cascade. More Marcello, please:)

I happen to be commenting to make you be aware of what a incredible discovery my wife's daughter had checking your site. She figured out some details, with the inclusion of what it is like to have an amazing giving mindset to get many others clearly learn several hard to do subject matter. You really exceeded our desires. Thanks for giving such important, dependable, revealing and as well as easy tips on this topic to Ethel.

I enjoyed the interview. The book sounds very good.
Enjoyed reading your review! The premise of this series is just my thing, and I do think the ARC being so defective played a part in you not being impressed with Waterfall. I know when I read a book, my surroundings have to be perfect for me to fully enjoy everything. I'm glad you gave the series another chance. If book one is just decent, I usually continue with book two before giving up on a series.
Nice review! Although there are some things in your review I don't really agree with, "I felt like the romance between Gabi and Marcello was more mature, more genuine, and the plot far more compelling" was a total thought that we have in common.
I was thinking the same thing!
Nice review. Cascade was definitely my favorite book.
Great interview :)
I loved Cascade ALOT super sad when it was over but then i was looking forward to Torrent :)

If you haven't read The River of Time series yet...don't wait a moment longer! You'll see why so many love this Series and the Stories within standing for love, family, survival and truth just to name a few=) I am a forever Fan of these books and of Lisa's writing!!
I LOVE Lisa T. Bergren's River of Time Series. I had to buy Torrent before I finished Cascade because I knew once I got reading I would not be able to put it down. They are SOO addicting.
Since I haven't read this one yet, I didn't read the review... I don't like spoilers. But thanks for being part of the hunt. This is fun!
I love these books, I don't think there's anything you could say against them, except the fact that I have to wait so long to read BOURNE!
Thanks you a lot for this event and taking the time for your readers
all the best
Hmmmm... I loved all three books in these series- I had no problem getting into them. Thank you so much Lisa for writing them! :)
I like Cascade but Torrent's my fave.
This is the only series I've ever wanted to read over and over. I love them all!
I really need to give this series a try!!!
Cascade has been my favorite of the trilogy(so far)! I can't wait for the next few books to come out, and the plot is just so enticing!
I was seriously addicted to reading this series (sorry for neglecting you for a little while family!). I admit that Cascade was probably my least favorite of the series, probably because it had the most action and the least romance (and I'm a sucker for romance). But I HAVE enjoyed reading all 3 books, and am looking forward to Bourne!
LOOOVE this book! Thanks for hosting the tour!!!
Cascade is my favorite!
I think so far Cascade has been my favorite of the series...although I have enjoyed all 3 immensely.
yay! can't wait to read this!
